Maracas Studio Intership

I worked on The Witch’s Cookbook (Steam release in 2024) and Project MT (NDA) with Maracas Studio. In The Witch’s Cookbook, you play as a witch who has to brew magic potions using the ingredients that your culinary fairies will present. These fairies are actually assisted by the Twitch chat, which helps determine which ingredients to use. So, this is a game created for the Twitch community made with Unity.

I would like to express my gratitude to Maracas Studio for their warm welcome during my two-month tenure with their team.

As a Unity C# Developer, my tasks and responsibilities included :

  • The Witch’s Cookbook
    • Polish and Bug Fixes
      • UI adjustments
      • Integration of hourglass animations and VFX tweaks
      • Fixing input issues
      • Adjusting the timer and win conditions
  • Project MT
    •  Player
      • Transitioning the movement system from Rigidbody to Character Controller
      • Adjusting width and climbable step offsets
      • Modifying spawning positions
      • Correcting player position conditions for interacting with NPCs
      • Resolving head rotation issues
      • Implementing a new selection arrow system when the player is near an NPC
    • NPC
      • Managing dialogues: Delayed the animated text using the typewriter plugin
      • Ensuring NPCs correctly look at the player when in close proximity
      • Resolving an issue related to incorrect text retrieval from an online spreadsheet localization
    • New Feature : UI ChitChat Bubbles
      • Allowing NPCs to engage in chitchat with bubbles spawning above them
        • Implementing tweakable animations (speed, duration, position, etc.) for the bubbles
        • Ensuring avoidance of bubble overlapping
        • Implementing different bubble types/text based on online spreadsheet localization
        • Implementing soft object pooling for optimization
    • Props
      • Using shader-exposed values provided by artists to create a moving plants effect
    • Render settings
      • Collaborating with artists to address multi-scene lighting settings issues
    • Cinemachine camera waypoints path adjustments
    • Adding/Adjusting Prefabs Colliders
    • Making UI adjustments (HUD and black screen fade)
  • Version Control
    • Installed Plastic SCM for the first time and adapted to its use
    • Created new workspaces for Maracas Studio projects
  • Management & Teamwork
    • Participated in remote daily meetings and onsite sprint reviews
    • Contributed to HacknPlan task progress and proactively created new tasks
    • Attended weekly meetings to provide lore suggestions
  • QA
    • Tested games and reported issuesMade with Unity.
